Practice Diction Analysis

Nicholson Baker's The Mezzanine is a pleasantly soothing depiction of where a man works. The playful description of him carrying his Penguin Paperback in a small CVS bag with the receipt on top is what opens up this colorful excerpt. The excerpt in its entirety is very descriptive. It is not only pleasing to read, but also the vivid visuals like "On sunny days like this one, a temporary, steeper escalator of daylight, formed by intersections of the lobby's towering volumes of marble glass.." create amazing mental pictures. Though there is a sense of frailness due to the marble and glass, this abruptly changes when Baker describes the "brushed-steel side panels" which creates an almost rugged appearance. Nicholson Baker's The Mezzanine is a grotesquely elegant excerpt with a little hint of ruggedness.

Though I have not been up to date on my blogging I have been reading the most I think I have ever read before in my life. The books that I have read so far range in a variety of different topics. One of my favorite is called the Lone Survivor. This was the first book that I have read all the way through on my own time. I have been really impressed in the way that I try to take just at least half an hour before I go to bed to read. I really like reading before I go to bed because there is nothing really on my mind because all my other homework is finished and it is just my time to read in peace. One the weekends I usually read right when I get home from football practice which is around 10 30. I go outside if it is nice and just sit on the porch and read. Sometimes ill even put in some music. I think by next semester I am going to reread the hobbit, I really enjoy this book. All in all I have been keeping up with my reading pretty well, but the next step is blogging more than I am now.
